When was the last time you said, ”I’d love to go and get out into nature” .. but its Winter and don’t give “getting out there” a second thought, or Margaret River for that matter.
Its all too hard, too cold, why bother! The analogy I hear all the time.
So what is Nature?
Theres 3 million definitions of it, we all have a different take on it and we all interact with it in our personal way.
OK, so one simplistic version of nature is… “the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape and other features of the planet.” Wow .. a pretty broad definition! Covers a lot of territory. How, when and where do you fit all that into your definition of nature.
I’m now approaching the Winter of my life and I’m still trying to fit it all in yet alone understand it. So if you’re reading this Blog, I’m guessing you have narrowed down your version and maybe wanting to connect with my version of it.
Margaret River is clearly a region of many contrasts and distinctive seasons. Winter brings out the best of Margaret River with its cool temperate climate, lush green countryside , flowing creeks and rivers. Combine this with some spectacular coastal vistas , wildflowers and orchids and you have a perfect connection with nature …and Winter.
Yes Winter is my favourite season and I’m not just saying that because I’m writing a seasonal Blog .
Really, when was the last time you got out on the coast and had your face turn blue from a howling south westerly, your skin tingling like some one has thrown a bucket of ice water over you.
What an amazing feeling when you’re sitting on an ancient cliff top overlooking a wild Southern Ocean 6 meter swell.
Thats why I love winter… and also the hot cuppa out of your trusty thermos when you find a little rock shelter along the magnificent Limestone cliffs at Black Point. The colours looking out into the horizon can be an ever-changing kaleidoscope and knowing theres nothing between you and the Antarctic gives you that feeling of complete isolation and solitude.
I love this place. It has everything. All my nature passions in one.
So I have designed a tour specifically for people who have narrowed down their version of connecting with nature that is on the same page as mine. It combines a true off road experience in my dedicated luxury 4wd drive.. A Land Rover Discovery of course!
The journey traverses a world classified Biodiversity hotspot, some of the rearrest and spectacular old growth Jarrah & Marri forests eventually leading you to Black Point itself. A rugged and spectacular coastline created by an ancient Lava flow that was cooled and solidified by the ocean some 135 million years ago. Now thats pretty old. Black Point has one of wildest and most photogenic coastline vistas circumnavigating Australia.
Yes, after 2 hours of getting there, hiking and photography you’re treated to an amazing homemade picnic lunch,a much needed energy boost for some more wild coast hiking and beach combing before we head back.
But just when you think the days over, a little stop over half way home is a local Boutique Winery to sample a bit more of natures best. … but only if you’re that way inclined!
So do you think it’s still all too hard?
